After Supper: Visions of my Life is an annual fundraiser featuring the photography by those who come to Catholic Charities for a meal every Tuesday. We distributed over 150 disposable cameras to individuals over a 5-week period, held workshops, and instruction on the cameras and principles of photography. 
There’s a 4-month shooting period, giving the artists ample time to photograph a variety of subjects and complete their roll of film. Some artists have even used previous earning to purchase their own digital cameras.
Upon completion of their rolls of film, the artists return their cameras for developing, and editing. Artists can exhibit up to (4) images, depending on their status as “new” or “returning” artists. We matted, framed, and displayed the images with each artists’ portrait and statement about their work.Click here for more info.

The Sankofa Theater Company presents This Is Our Youth by Kenneth Lonergan. The concept for this show is “A Party and a Play.” Since the play takes place entirely in an apartment we have conceived this production as a site-specific show. The piece will be performed throughout different apartments, lofts, and artist lofts throughout Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods from October 30th thru November 13th.
The evening opens with a live musical set as guest arrive to a room full of art from local artists. Soon thereafter the play begins. An immersion of sights and sounds, the play seamlessly melts into a full blown party! Drinks! Food! And Live music! Click here for more info!

Learn more about rubencantu media’s new project for the new year- The Insider-Out Project. Pledge Today! Help launch a non-profit, community outreach, photography project through Kickstarter. Insider-Out Project will be working with displaced, homeless, mentally, and physically disabled individuals to exhibit, promote, and sell their work. Watch the video, be inspired, donate! We’re hoping to raise enough funds to open a studio/ gallery, distribute cameras, have some shows, and have a good time! Thanks to all who pledged! It was a great effort.

I recently paired up with the Chicago Photography Center to help expand their community outreach program; working with up and coming artists hailing from community shelters and housing around Chicago.
